Usually made of synthetic rubber, with a toothed inner surface, the timing belt is subject to wear and tear and should be replaced at. The teeth are nylon coated to protect the wear surface and minimize friction. Gates is the more popular choice for a reason, but don’t underestimate Dayco either. Aramid reinforced nylon jackets and back side jackets for longer wear. Belts are neoprene with fiberglass reinforcement for quiet operation. Litens is a Canadian company, and for the TDIs at least, they are typically still making the tensioners in Canada and will be printed as such. However, the other bits included in their kits may not be known appropriate brands for the application. The belt is fine, they are one of the OEM suppliers, along with Continental and Dayco. ![]()
